The formula for the surface area of a cylinder is:
[tex]A=2\pi rh+2\pi r^{2}[/tex]

As you probably know, the diameter is 2 times the radius, so by dividing the diameter, 34, by 2, we get 17 to be the radius.

Now, just plug the numbers in:
[tex]A=2\pi rh+2\pi r^{2}\\ A=2(3.14)(17)(10)+2(3.14)(17)^{2}\\ A=1067.6+1814.92\\ A=2882.5[/tex]
