The American army was larger during the battle of midway.
EXPLANATION:
The battle of midway, a "decisive naval battle" fought between the "Japanese and the American troops", started on the 4th of June, 1942 in the great Pacific Ocean.
Although the Japanese navy had out thrown their each and every foe in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the two naval armies were indistinguishably strong.
But it was the first time somebody had attained "major naval victory" against the Japanese and won. And it was the American navy.
This was a major bombshell in the pacific wars. Had the Japanese won the battle in this battle, they might have been "able to conquer Midway Island".
